Are you up to date with your routine health checks?

Many of the MS treatments available today are very effective at slowing the progression of MS, but unfortunately, it can also come with a list of side effects.

Most MS medications work by suppressing our immune system, and it can leave us vulnerable and exposed to some nasties getting in.

That is why it is so important to keep on top of routine health checks such as mammograms, pap smears and skin cancer check.

Mammograms are usually recommended between the age group of 50-74. BreastScreen NSW send out invitations every 2 years for routine free breast check.

You can attend BreastScreen NSW to have a free breast screening check from the age of 40+ and also 75+ but they don’t send out invitations, so you really need to be on top of it all.

For under 40’s I suggest speaking with your GP if you have any concerns.

Pap smears used to be recommended every 2 years but that has since changed to 5 years depending on a person’s history. Your GP or Specialist will be able to give you guidance as to what schedule you need to stick to.

And skin checks are recommended yearly for everyone. It is really important not to skip a year. It’s so much better to be on the front foot if anything was to happen, it’s better for early intervention… I mean, like we don't already have enough to deal with!

I really hope this blog has been helpful, or at least maybe reminded you to book an overdue check up. I hope this blog hasn’t scared you or provoked any hesitation regarding meditation. Those bad medication side effects are rare, its just mindful to be always keep up to date with checks.

These health checks really apply to everyone to be honest as a matter of importance. Due to our suppressed immune system, we just need to be a little more aware.
